Repeat after me: I do not need to go to Amorino even though they are on every street corner.
The Olympics are over and they proved to be an incredible joyful, fun and moving couple of weeks against all odds. It was better than I ever could have imagined and I’m so glad I stayed. I’ve also eaten ice cream almost every single day to get through the sweltering heat.
In honor of keeping the spirit of delight going through the rest of the summer, here’s my personal selection of independent, locally owned scoop shops for all the best ice creams, sorbets, gelatos, and fancy frozen bevs.
Tiny pies à la mode by the Canal Saint-Martin. Homemade peach raspberry soda with a miso-peach sorbet float. Frozen chocolate mousse ice cream sandwiches. The lines at this New Zealand inspired ice cream shop were crazy long during the heat wave this past week, but it was very much worth the wait. Julia Bell was formerly a pastry chef at Ten Belles.
Hot Tip: Get the slightly salty sweet corn soft serve and add chili crisp for a small extra cost (and zip).

They literally had to hire a bouncer because the street was overrun with Tiktokkers wanting to eat their sweet treats on the sidewalk with a glass of wine. It’s good but I rarely, if ever, have the patience for the dramatics of it all. If you do go, it is a scene so dress accordingly as you’ll end up in the background of someone else’s gram. One of the only ice cream shops that tends to have chunky flavors (i.e. chunks of dough, brownie etc). I like to get a pot of the olive oil ice cream to-go and then put it on top of a molten chocolate cake with sprinkle of sea salt. You’ll look like a genius at your next dinner party.
Hot Tip: Pregnant women and children are invited to skip the lines.

The newest kid on the block, this small soft serve shop near the Canal Saint Martin has only been open for two months. The menu is limited (only four options) but you can get them twisted to try two at once. I loved the refreshing Saturn peach and lemon verbena twist on the day I went.
Hot Tip: The seasonal flavors change every Wednesday.
